The handbook's description of this structure

The course develops through three themes, which will provide you with interdisciplinary approaches to addressing the key challenges facing the rural and global community and in-depth expertise in your specialised area of study to enable you to effect change. These three themes are interwoven in units throughout the course: The Allied Health Professional in Context, Allied Health Professions Learning, and Applied Allied Health practice

The Allied Health Professional in Context
This theme will support development and understanding of the roles, responsibilities and expectations of health professionals and the personal and professional attributes required in the workplace. These include communication and interpersonal skills, professionalism, teamwork, critical thinking, ethical and legal issues, and reflexivity. The focus of these studies will also be on the social, environmental and behavioural contexts of ill health, disease and injury and broad societal issues such as health promotion, the application of epidemiology and statistics in the assessment of health risk in populations, public health, community diversity, population and global health. You will also develop a sound understanding of evidence-based practice.

Allied Health Professions Learning
This theme provides the knowledge and skills required for each profession specialisation. Within each profession-specific stream, this theme includes all the profession-specific knowledge and theory informing education and leadership practice

Applied Allied Health practice
This theme addresses competencies required for the practice of each of the profession's specialities. It focuses on the incorporation of the best available research evidence with the clinical reasoning skills of assessment, management, evaluation and health care across the lifespan and across a spectrum of educational and health care environments and circumstances. The goal of this theme is to progressively develop competent, entry-level practitioners who can function and thrive in a rapidly changing and dynamic health and human service delivery system, as well as to meet minimum entry-level competency standards.
