Overview
This unit builds on the understanding developed in EDF5177 (Social education in the secondary years A), to further prepare you to become effective and knowledgeable social education teachers. You will develop the ability to critically explore different approaches to teaching social education in Years 7 to 12. The unit involves an examination of various strategies, resources, activities and forms of assessment for teaching different areas of the social education curriculum. You will also critically examine national curriculum documents and explore examples of international research on social education teaching and learning, to prepare you to be a teacher in other global contexts.

You can expect to undertake a minimum total workload of 144 hours per teaching period which may include:
- on average 24 contact hours of scheduled activities which may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement; and
- 120 hours of self-directed/independent study to make up the minimum required hours
