EDF5178

Synopsis

This unit builds on the understanding developed in EDF5177 Humanities: Social sciences in secondary years A, to further prepare you to become effective and knowledgeable social science teachers. You will develop the ability to critically explore and use different approaches to teaching humanities and social science (HASS), especially in Years 11 to 12. The unit involves developing your capacity to use various planning strategies, resources, activities and forms of assessment for teaching different areas of the HASS curriculum, including studies in the Victorian Certificate of Education, such as sociology, philosophy, and politics. You will also critically examine Australian curriculum documents and explore international research on HASS teaching and learning to prepare you to be a teacher in local and global contexts.
