Overview

This unit builds on the understanding developed in EDF5177 (Social education in the secondary years A), to further prepare you to become effective and knowledgeable social education teachers. You will develop the ability to critically explore and use different approaches to teaching social education in Years 7 to 12. The unit involves developing your capacity to use various planning strategies, resources, activities and forms of assessment for teaching different areas of the social education curriculum including studies in the Victorian Certificate of Education. You will also critically examine Australian curriculum documents and explore examples of international research on social education teaching and learning to prepare you to be a teacher in global contexts.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    develop units of work that meet the requirements of curriculum documents for Years 7 to 10 and the post-compulsory Years 11 and 12, in either Australian or other global curriculum

    understand, design and implement effective assessment programs for Years 7 to 12 social education and for students of diverse backgrounds and abilities

    effectively design social education lessons that integrate information and communication technologies (ICT)

  7. 7

    design social education lessons that facilitate critical thinking, research, numeracy and literacy skills.
