Overview
The study of politics and governance addresses important questions about the nature of power, authority and governance: who gets what, when, how, and on what grounds. Yet politics is more than this and also concerns notions of freedom and agency in situations of social choice. Studying politics and governance can help us to understand social and political relationships in contemporary societies, and to acquire a diverse range of interpretive analytical skills. This specialisation is engaged in critical debates about governance, policy creation and administration, social behaviour and political action including electoral processes, as well as the management or resolution of conflict, including relations between states.
In this specialisation you will analyse government, policy and leadership, international relations and the political economy of globalisation and global governance. You will engage with debates about development, make comparative analyses of political systems operating in different countries around the globe, and critically assess the ideas and ideologies shaping contemporary visions of just societies.
