Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Strategic Communications Management provides students with foundation skills, knowledge and capabilities relevant to career pathways in a wide range of strategic communication related fields. This industry focused degree develops core competencies in critical areas of advocacy and persuasion, public relations and crisis communications which can be applied to the government, corporate, not-for-profit and community sectors. Drawing on best practices locally and globally, graduates will gain skills in building effective and ethical communication strategies across local and international cultures and being responsive to a digitally integrated world. You complete four core units which provide knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required of skilled practitioners working in a range of fields addressing strategic communication.

Units are 6 points unless otherwise stated.

You must complete the following units (12 points):

  • APG5365 Principles of global communications 
  • APG5470 Managing multicultural teams or APG5471 Leadership in intercultural environments

and two units from the following (12 points):

  • APG5366 Strategic communications in a digital era or APG5380 Public relations in a global context
  • APG5367 Campaigns, advocacy and change or APG5381 Crisis communications and issues management

Learning outcomes

These course outcomes are aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework and Monash Graduate Attributes.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

Entry requirements

Monash minimum: Level A, that is: IELTS: 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or TOEFL Paper-based test: 550 with a TWE of 4.5; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
