Overview

By studying business and arts together you are opening up a world of opportunity. The course enables you to study complementary subjects to help improve your employability, and develop core business skills that can be used in artistic arenas. It's also a great combination if you haven't decided on a career just yet, because it gives you the best of both worlds.

With this double degree, you'll have genuine diversity of choice, with more than 50 majors and minors on offer. Combine criminology and accounting to give you the skills to pursue a career as a forensic investigator; mix psychology and human resource management to pursue a business career that focuses on understanding how people think; or group business law and theatre studies to give you an edge in the film and entertainment industries.

Part A. Business specified study

48 credit points

You must complete one unit from one of the following lists, unless you are completing a major in Accounting. If you are completing the Accounting major you do not complete this section, but must take one elective from the Faculty of Business and Economics instead. Note: You may not have the space within your degree to take a 24 credit point unit.

Part B. Business listed major

48 credit points
You must complete one major from the list below. Depending on the major chosen, you may have already studied one of the required units as part of your business specified study. If so, you must complete an additional business unit to bring the combined business study to at least 96 credit points from the Faculty of Business and Economics. If you are intending to undertake an honours year, you should ensure you complete the specific units required for honours in your chosen major area of study. Refer also to the table of majors and minors.
Arts component96 credit points
You must complete no more than 36 credit points of level one Arts units and at least 36 credit points at level three of which at least 24 credit points must be Arts units.

Part A. Arts listed major

48 credit points
You must complete one major from the following with no more than 12 credit points at level one and at least 18 credit points at level three. It is recommended that you keep your options open in your first year by taking a sequence of units in at least two different areas of study that offer majors within arts.

APAC - Psychology extended major

60 credit points
If you are completing the APAC Psychology extended major below you will be required to complete 60 credit points of Psychology units and 36 credit points of Arts units which must include a minor (24 credit points) and signature elements (12 credit points).

Part B. Arts specified study

48 credit points
You must complete an arts listed minor in an area of study different from your chosen arts major from Part A. You must also complete a further 24 credit points of arts electives which must include 12 credit points of signature element units.

Business

B2000 Bachelor of Business is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course you complete the following two parts:

Part A. Business specified study

This will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of business and expose you to several business disciplines. It will contribute breadth to your knowledge of business and develop your understanding of multi-disciplinary decision making in organisations. It will also give you the opportunity to learn more about each discipline before finalising your choice of major.

Part B. Business listed major

This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise in one discipline area. You will develop, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of your major area of study.

Arts

A2000 Bachelor of Arts is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course you complete the following two parts:

Part A. Arts listed major 

This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your practical and theoretical skills and knowledge in one Faculty of Arts listed major area of study. You will learn to critically analyse, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of the area of study.

Part B. Arts specified study

This will expose you to several arts discipline areas of study contributing breadth to your knowledge of the arts, humanities and social sciences. It will also give you the opportunity to learn about several areas of study before finalising your choice of major and minor.

You must complete 192 credit points, of which 96 credit points are from the Bachelor of Business (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree) and 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Arts (including all the requirements in Part A and B for the single degree).

Applicants will require a minimum 60% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not be sufficient to meet admission requirements.

Monash University Foundation Year average: 70%

Higher education studies:
Applicants will be require a minimum 60% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. A minimum of two single units must be completed in order to meet minimum admission requirements.

Monash Minimum: Level A, that is: IELTS: 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or TOEFL Paper-based test: 550 with a TWE of 4.5; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test
