Overview
This course is designed to provide you with high-level skills in a range of key business disciplines. It will provide you with the skills to work in and manage different functions across an organisation. It blends a conceptual theoretical framework with practical applications, providing both a broad basis for business study and the more specific knowledge of your selected major(s). It provides choice and flexibility by allowing you to major in up to two different areas of business, and offering you the opportunity to study overseas or undertake an internship.
You will be well equipped to seek employment in both private and public-sector enterprises.

The handbook's description of this structure
This is a comprehensive course, structured in three parts:
Part A. Business specified study
This will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of business and expose you to several business disciplines. It will contribute breadth to your knowledge of business and develop your understanding of multi-disciplinary decision making in organisations. It will also give you the opportunity to learn more about each discipline before finalising your choice of major.
Part B. Business listed major
This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise. You will develop, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of your major area of study.
Part C. Free elective study
This will enable you to further develop knowledge of your chosen major, or business more broadly, or study a second business major. Alternatively you can select units from across the University in which you are eligible to enrol.
Course progression map
The course progression map provides guidance on unit enrolment for each semester of study.
You must complete units as specified in Parts A, B and C (144 points): including at least 96 points of study in Parts A and B, and up to 48 points of free electives in Part C.
In choosing your units, you must ensure that you complete no more than 10 units (60 points) at level 1 and at least six units (36 points) at level 3, including four units (24 points) at level 3 offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Units are 6 points unless otherwise specified.
Part A. Business specified study (54, 60 or 72 points)
You must complete:
a. The following seven units (42 points):
- ACF1100/ACX1100 Introduction to financial accounting* or ACF1200/ACX1200 Accounting for managers
- BFF1001 Foundations of finance
- BTF1010/BTX1010 Business law
- ECF1100 Microeconomics
- ETF1100/ETX1100 Business statistics
- MGF1010 Introduction to management
- MKF1120 Marketing theory and practice
* You must complete ACF1100/ACX1100 if you intend to complete a major in Accounting.
b. One integrating unit from the list below (6 points):
Note: You must complete one of the following units, unless you are undertaking the Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Secondary Education and Bachelor of Business (course D3007). If you are undertaking this course, EDF2078 Creative and critical teaching meets this requirement, and you are required to choose another 6 CP unit from the Accounting, Business law, Business management or Economics and business strategy majors.

If you are completing a major in Accounting you do not complete this section. The following units meet this course requirement: ACF3100/ACC3100 Advanced financial accounting and ACF3200/ACC3200 Management accounting.
Note: You must complete one unit from one of the following lists, unless you are completing a major in Accounting or undertaking the Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Secondary Education and Bachelor of Business (course D3007). If you are completing the Accounting major you do not complete this section, as ACF3100 and ACF3200 meet this requirement. If you are undertaking D3007, EDF4068 Teaching performance assessment meets this requirement, and you are required to choose another 6 CP unit from the Accounting, Business law, Business management or Economics and business strategy majors.
Note: If you choose a 12 or 24 point unit you will need to reduce the amount of points available for free electives in Part C which may impact on the ability to complete a major using electives. If you are enrolled in a double degree you will be limited to 6 points in Part A (c.).

Part B. Business listed major (42 points)
You must complete at least one major from the list. The major will comprise 42 points from Part B plus 6 points from Part A (related unit from business specified study) to total 48 points which is required to equal a major.
If you are intending to undertake an honours year, you should ensure you complete the specific units required for honours in your chosen major area of study.

Part C. Free elective study (maximum 48 points)
Electives can be chosen from within the Bachelor of Business, including units to complete a second major or minor(s). Enrolment in Faculty of Business and Economics units at campuses other than the campus of enrolment is subject to there being capacity after students from that campus have enrolled.
Electives can also be chosen from across the University, including to complete a major or minor from another course if you have met the required prerequisites and there are no restrictions on enrolling in the units. You should also be aware of travel and timetabling limitations.
No more than two units can contribute towards two majors, or a major and a minor, in the same course (including a double degree course). The same unit is not credited towards two minors.
For students in a double degree course, some units required for the other degree are credited as electives towards this Business degree.

Applicants will require a minimum of 60% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements.

Progression to further studies
Successful completion of this course may provide a pathway to the one year honours program Bachelor of Commerce (Honours). To be eligible to apply for entry into the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), you must obtain a distinction grade average (70%) or above in 24 credit points of studies in relevant discipline units at level 3. In addition, some majors require particular level 3 units to be taken for admission to honours. The details are provided with the requirements for each major to which this applies.
