Master of Business Information Systems

Master of Business Information Systems is structured in three parts, Part A. Foundation studies, Part B. Core studies and Part C. Applied studies. In this double degree course you complete: 

Part A. Foundation studies 

These units provide an introduction to information systems and business concepts, including system design and analysis as applied in professional practice. You will learn basic software programming and development concepts and database technology.

These units are intended for students whose previous qualification is not in a cognate field.

Part B. Core studies 

These units draw on best practices within business information systems (BIS) to gain critical understanding of the theories and practice relating to responsible digitalisation, digital transformation, BIS strategy, governance and management, ethical BIS innovation and design, business intelligence and analytics, project management, as well as a choice of data and archive, and business process and decision-making behaviour..

Part C. Applied studies

The focus of these studies is professional or scholarly work in the broad realm of business information systems.

Master of Management

The Master of Management is structured in three parts, Part A. Core studies, Part B Discipline studies and Part C Elective studies. In this double degree course you complete: 

Part A. Core studies

These units will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of core management principles, contemporary practice and leadership and their impact on multi-discipline decision-making in organisations. These units will develop your capacity as an innovative future-ready professional who is able to apply specialist knowledge to complex management issues.

Part B. Discipline studies

These units develop your capacity as a critical and creative professional who can apply advanced management knowledge to analyse complex organisational issues. You will build the skills to evaluate theories, apply evidence-based practices, and design innovative solutions that enhance leadership, strategy, and sustainable performance in diverse organisational contexts. Selected units within this part are accredited by the Australian HR Institute (AHRI).

Master’s entry points

Depending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit which determines your point of entry to the course:

  • If you are admitted at entry level 1, you complete 120 credit points, comprising Part A., Part B. and Part C. of the Master of Business Information Systems and Part A and Part B of the Master of Management.
  • If you are admitted at entry level 2, you complete 96 credit points, comprising Part B. and Part C. of the Master of Business Information Systems and Part A. and Part B. of the Master of Management.

Note: If you are eligible for credit for prior studies you may elect not to receive the credit and complete the higher credit-point option.

Master of Business Information Systems

The Master of Business Information Systems comprises 84 credit points structured into three parts, Part A. Foundation studies (24 credit points), Part B. Core studies (48 credit points) and Part C. Applied studies (24 credit points). 

Part A. Foundation studies (24 credit points)

You must complete the following units:

  • FIT9123 Fundamentals of business information systems

  • FIT9132 Introduction to databases

  • FIT9136 Introduction to Python programming

  • FIT9138 Information systems analysis, design and systems thinking

Part B. Core studies (42 credit points)

You must complete 42 credit points, comprising:
- the following six units (36 credit points); and
- one further unit (6 credit points) from the Specified elective studies.

  • FIT5057 Project management

  • FIT5125 IT research and innovation methods

  • FIT5233 Digital transformation, strategy and governance

  • FIT5234 Advanced business information systems analysis and design

  • FIT5235 Business intelligence and analytics

  • FIT5237 Responsible digitalisation

Specified elective studies (6 credit points)

You must complete one of the following units:

  • FIT5094 Evolutionary decision support

  • FIT5206 Digital continuity
