Overview

This unit is designed to enhance your teaching practice. The unit focuses on the art of planning effectively, learner teaching and learning experiences, formal and informal assessments and data utilization, drawing on both theoretical insights and practical experiences.

Within this unit you will have opportunities to design, deliver and refine teaching plans and assessment rubrics in response to peer feedback. By engaging in collaborative planning to foster inclusive and supportive learning environments you will develop knowledge of current curriculum; research-based assessment practices; the teaching and learning cycle; how to develop learning goals, scaffold and engage learners; and ways to incorporate relevant assessment strategies into a lesson. In addition, you will explore different ways to keep effective records of student achievement to monitor growth over time and for reporting to students, parents and carers.

Overall, the unit is designed to enhance your ability to plan effectively and use assessment to support and improve student learning, fostering dynamic and responsive teaching practices.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    critique a range of planning and assessment practices (including ICT) to support well-developed planning and assessment practices and learning opportunities for all learners, and communicate outcomes effectively and adjust practice accordingly

    critically evaluate the effectiveness of implemented lesson plans and assessment practices and utilise this knowledge to refine and improve planning and assessment practices

    demonstrate connections between assessment, reporting and planning for teaching and learning

    design and construct a specific marking rubric that is informed by research literature and addresses content and process, evaluate the effectiveness of it using student work samples and make informed modifications

    demonstrate capacity to work effectively in small groups to analyse planning documents, multiple sources of student data, moderate assessments, and suggest ways to improve teacher practice and evaluate the impact of teaching on learning.
