Overview

This specialisation will prepare you to engage infants and children (birth – 12 years of age) in rich teaching and learning experiences informed by research and practice. You will develop specialised knowledge and skills which will prepare you to teach and lead appropriate pedagogical practices for a range of contexts including long day care, kindergartens/preschools and primary schools. Within an early childhood context, you will learn how to design, implement and engage young children in meaningful learning that will foster their creative, physical, personal, intellectual and social capabilities. You will be prepared to lead innovative practice that facilitates continuity of learning for young children and will apply inclusive principles to meet children’s diverse learning needs and cultural backgrounds. At the primary level, with a focus on the first three years of schooling, you will develop an understanding of how primary school aged children learn and can be taught effectively and creatively across all primary curriculum areas. You will develop your knowledge of cross curriculum priorities and the curriculum areas you will teach, such as: English and literacies, mathematics, arts education, humanities, science, digital technologies, and health and physical education. You will complete extended studies in a curriculum area, selecting from English/literacy, mathematics/numeracy or science.
