Bachelor of Architectural Design and Master of Architecture

F6003

Overview

Architecture at Monash is a five-year academic program starting with the Bachelor of Architectural Design and leading to the Master of Architecture course. These together will qualify graduates to start their professional practice.

Creative practice is core to the three-year Bachelor of Architectural Design course. The educational environment is built around opportunities to encounter, understand and explore addressing the emerging challenges of our age and profession through designerly and architectural approaches. You will develop these skills through key practice, performance, and history and theory units - and find opportunities to test and extend these skills across six semesters of project based studios. These design studios provide an expanded site that draws on expertise from current academics and practicing architects to deliver problem focused investigations of key urban, environmental, social or political issues.

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Architectural Design you will automatically progress to the Master of Architecture, which focuses on research-led architectural design teaching and learning through advanced studios, key professional practice opportunities and depth-unit architectural studies electives. The Master of Architecture addresses the timely and pressing challenges of our age and our profession, in an enquiring, sophisticated, creative, ethical, inclusive, material and architectural way. Through research-led design studios and supporting professional subjects, we provide our graduates with the confidence and capabilities to respond to the complexities of the world in which they will operate. Our project-based learning operates at a range of scales, working with diverse teams and in live social and cultural contexts to help shape our evolving built environments. With commitments to social and spatial justice, environmental sustainability, and the creation of thriving communities, we equip graduates to operate as change agents through architectural practice.

The Bachelor of Architectural Design provides a pathway toward professional accreditation as an architect in Australia and sits under the frameworks set out by the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA). The Master of Architecture is professionally accredited and upon completion of the Master of Architecture, you will have demonstrated the (AACA) National Competency Standards as applicable to university courses.
