Overview

Every scientific breakthrough is accompanied by a complex transition from the laboratory to the community and the corporate world is increasingly influenced by scientific advances and developments.

This double degree course in commerce and science gives you the skills to commercialise scientific research or outcomes, or apply commercial knowledge in research environments.

You have the opportunity to develop the technical and research skills required in scientific fields, while developing a strong understanding of the commercial realities of research as a business. You can combine your majors to explore areas of interest or develop new ones:

  • Pursue your mathematical talents with majors in applied mathematics and actuarial studies or econometrics, which could lead to an academic career or the development of new mathematical models and principles.
  • Blend studies in environmental science or conservation with a major in sustainability and introduce sustainable practices into the community or across organisations.
  • Turn majors in pharmacology and marketing science into a successful career marketing new medications or scientific breakthroughs.

Part C. Capstone studies

This is designed to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the study of your course.

Science

S2000 Bachelor of Science is a comprehensive course and it will provide you with a broad, general science education, as well as specialist training in one or more science disciplines. In this double degree you complete:

Part A. Major studies

This part offers a coherent and in-depth program of study that allows you to develop expertise within one or more science disciplines. It supports both depth and breadth in your scientific education, enabling you to engage deeply with at least one chosen discipline while also gaining exposure to other areas of science. Through this flexible structure, you will explore different fields before refining your focus and build a strong disciplinary identity. You will develop advanced understanding of the core concepts and theoretical frameworks that underpin your discipline and learn to apply and communicate this knowledge effectively in scientific contexts.

Part B. Specified studies

This includes core requirements in mathematics, statistics or coding, ensuring you develop the quantitative foundations essential for scientific study, alongside a communication unit that supports the development of effective scientific communication skills. Together, these elements help build key capabilities that are highly valued across the workforce.
