Overview
This double degree course has been developed in response to the demand for arts administrators, artists and designers with first-class business skills.
You can expect to develop knowledge of the major business disciplines, together with theories and practices associated with a career in fine art or art history and curating. You will gain an understanding of their relationship, and have the business skills to support your creative endeavours.
Combining the cultural awareness fostered in fine art or art history and curating alongside business skills will allow you to creatively engage with management, marketing, accounting or international business. It will also offer greater insight into the production and professional presentation of artwork.

Fine Art
F2003 Bachelor of Fine Art is structured in five parts and develops through theme studies in critical contexts, disciplinary and studio practices, and discipline electives. These will come together during the final two studio units in the third year of the course, and final projects will be exhibited in the graduand exhibition. In this double degree you complete:
Part A. Critical contexts
These studies will equip you with the skills necessary to research fine arts issues and provide the research methods relevant to your studio or workshop practice. They will enable you to contextualise your own practice and communicate ideas and strategies. Through the prism of history, as well as reference to bodies of knowledge relevant to cultural production, you will begin to situate the place of art in society.
Part B. Disciplinary practices
The studies will assist you to develop the perceptual, practical and intellectual skills required by art, design and architecture students in the discipline of drawing. This will introduce you to occupational health, safety and environmental training particularly within the context of studying art, design and architecture.
Part C. Studio practices
Through this component of the course you will develop key skills and concepts particular to your fine art specialisation. Through lectures and seminars, studios or practice driven workshops, you will develop the capacity for independent cultural production within fine art and related fields. Interdisciplinary skills and practices will be explored in conjunction with critical thinking.
Part D. Discipline electives
These elective studies provide you with the opportunity to deepen and broaden your knowledge and practice through the selection of electives in Fine Art. In these studies you can choose to complete an internship or undertake an unit abroad or select units in your discipline that are of interest.
Business
B2000 Bachelor of Business is a comprehensive course, structured in four parts. In this double degree you complete:
Part A. Core studies
These studies will provide you with a broad foundation for your study of business and expose you to several business disciplines. It will contribute breadth to your knowledge of business and develop your understanding of multi-disciplinary decision making in organisations. It will also give you the opportunity to learn more about each discipline before finalising your choice of major.
Part B. Major studies
Your major studies will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your expertise. You will develop, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of your major area of study.
Part C. Capstone studies
This is designed to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the study of your major.

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites.
VET Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma graduates: To be considered, applicants will normally require at least a minimum 60% average to be considered for selection. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements.
University: Completion of two single units (equivalent to 12 Monash credit points) satisfy minimum entry requirements, but more units may be useful for selection, especially in areas of study related to the course in which admission is being sought. Applicants should have at least a 60% average in their studies. Studies must have been completed within five years of intended commencement.
English language
Monash Level A, that is: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0); or Pearson Test of English (Academic): score of 58 overall with no band lower than 50; or TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading: 13 and Speaking: 18; or Equivalent approved English test

The Bachelor of Fine Art will educate you in all aspects of contemporary creative visual practices to enable you to build a high level of expertise in Fine art. You will engage directly with professional artists, as well as with practitioners from allied creative fields including art history and theory, curatorial, design and architecture.
Fine art will prepare you for a career as a contemporary professional artist and provide you with transferable creative, critical and problem-solving skills that open pathways across creative industries, cultural sectors and broader professional fields. You can take an interdisciplinary approach and explore a range of studio methods, material processes, and techniques across drawing, ceramics, glass, jewellery, painting, photography (digital and analogue), printmaking, sculpture and installation, sound and video, as well as digital fabrication technologies. Or you can practice and focus on a single medium. Studio practice is complemented by an understanding of critical contexts through art history and theory and an introduction to Indigenous Australian creative practice and ways of knowing ensuring conceptual and contextual learning is continually integrated into creative practice.
The Bachelor of Business will enable you to delve into the dynamic world of business. You will have the opportunity to understand what makes organisations, brands and markets function effectively and sustainably. Whether you are interested in working for a large corporation, or a not-for-profit organisation, managing a business, or becoming an entrepreneur, the Bachelor of Business will give you the knowledge and skills you need to thrive in a competitive business landscape. The course provides choice and flexibility by allowing you to develop broad business knowledge as well as specialised expertise in one or two chosen areas of business practice. It also offers you the opportunity to study overseas or undertake an internship, as well as a range of other experiences which enable you to maximise your employability at graduation.
