The Masters of Cultural and Creative Industries will prepare you for diverse career pathways in the cultural sector. The course examines the trends and transformation of the global cultural and creative industries and multi-faceted challenges facing creative practitioners, cultural managers, creative entrepreneurs and producers, and policymakers. The course draws on research and teaching expertise from Monash academics in cross-disciplinary areas of cultural management, cultural policy, film and media studies, cultural economics and strategic communication. Situated within Melbourne, the cultural hub of Australia, the course offers opportunities for industry internships and field trips if you are seeking an immersive experience in Melbourne's vibrant cultural and creative sector.

- a suitable thesis supervisor is available.
If you are admitted into the course at entry Level 1 or 2, the following unit replacements will apply:
- APG5084 Designing research as offered in Part C.
- APG5849 Research thesis A replaces 6 credit points from Part D.
- APG5850 Research thesis B replaces 12 credit points from Part B.
If you are admitted into the course at entry Level 3, the replacement units will be determined based on previous study in consultation with the Course Director.
Note 1. APG5084 Designing research is a co-requisite for enrolment in APG5849 Research thesis A and must be completed in the same semester.

The course is structured in four parts: Part A. Core studies, Part B. Applied Studies, Part C. Professional practice studies and Part D. Elective studies.

Part A. Core studies
These studies provide you with foundation knowledge and skills in the field of cultural and creative industries at a graduate level. They will immerse you in cultural and creative industries studies and provide you with the opportunity to apply specialised understanding of the field in real world settings. They draw on best practices within the broad field of cultural and creative industries studies practice and research to further your understanding of the complex ecosystem in which cultural and economic goals and dynamics combine in ways that transgress traditional disciplinary and policy boundaries.
Part B. Applied studies
The focus of these studies is professional or scholarly work that can contribute to a portfolio of professional development.
Part C. Professional practice studies
Designed in association with industry experts, select from this suite of professional enhancement offerings to build essential competencies for your career pathway.
Part D. Elective studies
Select from a range of options designed to enhance specific knowledge and skills in Cultural and Creative Industries and related fields. Units not taken in Part A and Part B are also available as elective options.
Master's entry points
Depending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit (a form of block credit) which determines your point of entry to the course.
- If you are admitted at entry level 1 you complete 96 credit points, comprising Part. A, Part. B, Part. C and Part. D.
- If you are admitted at entry level 2 you complete 72 credit points, comprising Part. A, Part. B, Part. C (6 credit points) and Part. D (12 credit points).
- If you are admitted at entry level 3 you complete 48 credit points, comprising Part. A (36 credit points) and Part. B.
Note: Students eligible for credit for prior studies may elect not to receive the credit and complete one of the higher credit-point options.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to:

conceptualise contemporary challenges and opportunities for cultural and creative industries, from individual practices to large-scale cultural projects, situated in a wider international context;

investigate a range of distinct practical challenges in the field, and related policy development and implementation, using case studies and fieldwork;

skilfully and appropriately communicate ideas to a variety of audiences (academic, policy, industry, and community), verbally and in writing;

undertake an independent research project utilising research methodology and exercising professional ethics.
