The Bachelor of Education (Honours), Early Childhood and Primary course will prepare you for a rewarding career as a confident, skilled, critical, creative and effective teacher, equipped with the knowledge and capabilities to teach children (birth - 12 years of age) across early childhood and primary school sectors.
You will learn evidence-informed teaching approaches aligned with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0) and Core Content, preparing you to design clear, inclusive and effective learning experiences.
You will develop the specialised knowledge and skills required to lead effective pedagogical practice across early childhood and primary settings, including long day care, kindergartens/preschools, and primary schools.
Within the early childhood contexts, you will learn to design, implement, and facilitate meaningful learning experiences that support children's creative, physical, personal, intellectual, and social development. You will be prepared to lead innovative and inclusive practices that promote continuity of learning and respond to diverse learning needs and cultural backgrounds.
With a focus on the first three years of primary schooling, you will develop an understanding of how children learn and how to teach effectively across all curriculum areas, including English and literacy, mathematics, the arts, humanities, science, digital technologies, and health and physical education. You will also undertake extended study in either English/literacy, mathematics/numeracy, or science, further enhancing your expertise in curriculum and pedagogy while deepening your knowledge in a key teaching area.
Professional experience is embedded throughout all four years of the course, beginning in your first year and culminating in extended supervised teaching in your final year. Across 95 days of supervised professional experience in metropolitan, rural, remote, or international early childhood and school settings, you will connect theory with practice, develop the professional capabilities required for effective teaching in early childhood and primary school settings, and become a thoughtful, innovative, and inclusive educator capable of designing learning experiences that provide students with an effective blend of challenge and support.
